3 -) Questions About Unlocking:
Q: What is Motorola remote unlocking ?
Answer: Nowadays, almost every cell phone in North America and in partial Europe are
programmed to be locked to specific mobile phone service provider ,such as AT&T, Cingular,
T-mobile, Orange, Vodafone etc. Such lock will block the cell phone's capability of accessing
different service network. Remote unlock provides you the ability to remove such lock,
so your phone will be able to use any SIM cards from different network.
Q: Why unlock a phone ?
A: Phones are generally sold by a wireless carrier for much less than their actual retail
value. The wireless carrier often subsidizes the cost of the phone with the expectation that
they can recover more than this amount throughout the subscriber's contract.
They will try to make sure that the phone can only be used on their particular network, and
thus, locks the phone's software to their wireless network. e.g. AT&T provisioned phones only
work on AT&T wireless networks. Unlocking involves clearing the phone's software setting
so that the phone can be used on any network. Again, phone's sold directly by the
manufacturer are often unlocked and ready to use with any wireless GSM carrier on
the phone's supported band (900/1800/1900MHz) and sold for much more than subsidized
phones. In essence, after your phone is unlocked it will take on most of the characteristics
of a phone that was sold factory direct.
Q: What are the benefits of unlocking a mobile phone ?
A: 1- Allows the customer to use various wireless carriers across the world. Often,
a subscriber can benefit from purchasing a prepaid SIM in the visiting country/region
as it might be less expensive than international roaming, if applicable. Other uses:
- All minutes in a monthly plan are exhausted and overage minutes are more expensive
than minutes used on a prepaid SIM.
- Separate SIMs for personal/business usage.
- Usage of another SIM while sharing the same phonebook .
2- Resale value of the phone is increased as an unlocked phone will cater to the needs of
more potential buyers
rather than those limited to a certain carrier. Check various auction sites to confirm this.
3- You don't need to purchase another phone when you are switching phone companies.
4- Allow you to switch phones easily between friends, families and colleagues.
5- Freedom to change and more options are always better than less.
